My Approach to Therapy

Anyone can benefit from therapy or psychotherapy. Talking to a trained mental health professional can help you to explore your thoughts and feelings, build resilience and improve your overall mental and emotional health. You may feel that what you’re experiencing isn’t serious enough to get help or feel unsure about the kind of support that psychotherapy can offer.  However therapy helps us to be more aware of how we see the world and why.  Sometimes ‘psychotherapy’ is referred to as ‘talking therapy’.  As an Integrative therapist,  I use a range of psychological models underpinned with a person-centred approach, combining talking therapy with embodied, creative, and non verbal processes.

Sometimes it can be painful or overwhelming to put our experiences into words, by working with non-verbal and creative processes we can access and work through our experiences without feeling re-traumatised by them.  This can be a powerful experience for people who don’t feel positively about themselves, their body, or body image and/or are detached or dissociated from it, as well as those who struggle to, or are unable to verbally express themselves. Our bodies hold our entire life experiences within them and can be a powerful resource in overcoming and releasing trauma.  â€‹My approach to therapy helps clients to develop positive, life-changing habits enabling and empowering people to embrace a life that makes them happier and healthier.

My Training

Group Dance

I am a full clinical member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and registered member of the The Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy (ADMP) and the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA).

ADMP UK describes Dance Movement Psychotherapy as “a relational process in which client/s and therapist engage creatively using body movement and dance to assist integration of emotional, cognitive, physical, social and spiritual aspects of self”.

In sessions, I use a range of verbal, non-verbal and creative processes including expressive movement, music, art/image making, and talking to explore, understand and make meaning of life experiences. I may encourage you to  express how you are feeling non verbal ways, as well as talking with you.  â€‹  Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is a creative and expressive form of therapy that uses movement and dance to support the exploration of your body/mind connection as part of the therapeutic process.  Our bodies contain all of our lived experiences and our movements, and patterns of everyday movement represent our unconscious processes of thinking and behaving, which become more apparent through creative process.

No previous Dance or Movement experience is necessary, as sessions work with the client own range of movement. Some people use a lot of movement, some very little or none at all. The sessions are focused around you, and  help explore personal issues providing clarity, and effective tools to see life more positively.
